First Bulgarian translation is online

Our first book in Bulgarian is online! From now on, we will always inform you here, on Facebook and on Instagram when we upload the first translation in a language which previously was not featured on www.bilingual-picturebooks.org.

So today it's Bulgarian. And because we wanted to learn a bit more about the languages we upload, we also asked the translator of "How does the future actually come about" about a Bulgarian word that is special to him. You can read his answer here:

"I found the word "ЧИТАЛИЩЕ" (chitálishte, the E at the end is not silent). Literally it could be translated as a reading place, which I find appropriate for our little project here.
As for the meaning, I suppose the closest explanation would be a cultural center. It's a building that you can find in almost every village (or neighborhood in cities). It usually has a good assortment of books, but not a library. It's a place where young and old can gather for all kinds of activities that focus on the community. For daily activities like clubs (singing, dancing, drawing), reading, studying etc. Different celebrations are held there as well, for example, most villages have a yearly celebration called "събор" (read: subór) or special fairs and festivals."

Can you think of a language that is still missing on the site and would like to help translating? Then please get in touch with us.
