What is our goal?
For many children, the first books they experience are in a different language. This is something we would like to change. We would like to give as many children as possible access to picture books in their native language. That’s why children can tell other children all over the world their own stories on this website.
These stories are translated into seven languages by professional translators: Arabic, English, French, German, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish.
Volunteers then assist translating the books into many other languages.
Children, parents and promoters of reading around the world can download these bilingual picture books free of charge.
Who are we?
Die Bücherpiraten (book pirates) captivate children and get them interested in books.
We are a charitable organization and have set ourselves the goal of enabling children and young people to experience literature creatively and independently. Our projects are aimed at children and young people between the ages of 3 and 19. Literature festivals, reading, writing and acting groups: our children’s literature center in the old town of Lübeck, Germany, is home to all. Our Story-Seeker project has spread to hundreds of different preschool nurseries.
The association is solely financed through private donations. If you would like to donate, you can do so here.
If you would like to find out more, simply visit our website at www.buecherpiraten.de or pay us a visit in the children’s literature center.
How can I use the books?
The picture books are available to all for free download. You can choose whether you would like an e-book, a printable file for a ring-bound book or a professional printable file for a bound book.
We are always happy to see our books being read in preschool nurseries or schools.
